Can I apply BOWP even after my work permit is expired?

When my closed-work permit expired, my had a student visa.
So, I wasn't really thinking about getting BOWP.

But since CEC keeps delaying, I think I might need to work full-time again..

Is it possible to apply BOWP with expired work permit?

No.

To be eligible for a bridging open work permit, you must:

• Currently be in Canada;
• Have valid status on a work permit that is due to expire within 4 months;
• Have received confirmation from CIC that your permanent resident application is eligible under one of the four economic classes (FSWP, CEC, PNP and FSTP), and;
• Have made an application for an open work permit.

You can apply to restore your work permit in the first 90 days after it expires. If you do this, you can stay in Canada until you get further instructions, but you must stop working until you receive your restored work permit. There is no guarantee that your application will be approved.

Otherwise, you must leave Canada right away when your work permit expires. If you do not leave, you could be deported and will need permission from an immigration officer to come back.
