Hi there,

simple question that I couldn't find an answer for... I got my Permanent residency (as a primary applicant) together with my spouse (secondary applicant) and so I applied for PR with marital status "common-law".

We met with my spouse back in 2015 and have been together since... however as she came to Canada later than I did, I'm eligible to apply for citizenship in November 2019 while my spouse only in September 2020.

Questions is... Can I even apply as single applicant? Or do I have to wait for her to be eligible because we both must apply together as "common-law partners" in September 2020 then?

Thank you! ;)

You can apply when you are eligible. You do not need to wait.

Perfect, thank you! So I assume I still fill in my marital status as "common-law" regardless.

Thanks!

No. You are married, so you need to indicate that.

There is no indication that the OP has changed status from "common-law" to "legally married" in this thread. However, if that is the case then the current status should be used.

I don't recall them asking about my marital status anywhere in the citizenship application!

Are you talking about the new form? Cos you had me check my form and I didn't see any question re marital status..
Yes the new form has this marital status part Q 6.

Ah interesting! I checked my old one too and it definitely did not ask before.
