Hello,

Here is my background :

I'm 30 years old and I had to fill bankruptcy 5 years ago. I have yet to be cleared of it. I went travelling 3 years ago and met my wife in Indonesia. We lived a over a years and a half together after I came back here in September 2012, she came here with multi-entry tourist visa in November 2012 and we got married in Vegas last December 2012. I got the wedding registered in Quebec where I live.

1- I supported her financially since she landed, for a total of 6 month. She and I do not have dependents. I do around 60K a year. Would I be automatically disqualified for sponsoring my wife because of my bankruptcy or is there a leeway as to providing proof of incomes?

2- If I cannot be sponsor, would my mother or father be allowed to sponsor their daughter-in-law since they have excellent credit, and since we are already legally married under "Le directeur de l'état civil" of Quebec and under the state of Nevada ?

Thank you for any input in this matter.

1) Your bankrupcty must be discharged before you can sponsor her.

2) No, your parents cannot sponsor her.

If it's going to be a while before you can discharge your bankruptcy, she may want to look at independant ways to immigrate to Canada, such as Skilled Worker.

Thank you Amikety for your reply.

Then that leads me to asking myself, Amikety and the forum's members, what does the option "OTHER" refer to in the form IMM1344E, 6 A) Relationship to principal applicant ?

There is a statue nicknamed the "Lonely Canadian" rule that allows a Canadian citizen or PR without any living children, spouse, parents, or siblings in Canada to sponsor one family member (such as a brother or sister) to Canada so they will have one family member in the country. "Other" would cover this case.

Two provinces (SK and MB) also allow for sponsorship of other family members in certain cases, but I'm not positive they use the same form because it's done through the province and not federally.
