Hi, I'm Gisela from the Philippines and I am wondering if a close friend of mine who is a Canadian citizen will be able to sponsor my living expense? I have already enrolled myself in a college in Canada and have an acceptance letter. Now I am applying for a VISA and was wondering if my close friend could show a letter to state that she will be shouldering all my living and miscellaneous expense during my stay.

Thanks in advance.

Showing a letter is not sufficient. She would also need to provide her bank account statement with at least $10,000 in savings. Agree the chances of refusal are very high if you apply this way.

obviously he can but you have basically a 99% chance of getting rejected since your friend is not your relative at all.

a parent CAN refuse to sponsor you even if they promise to, but the chances of it happening is way more unlikely. that is why the vo, imo will outright reject you for a lack of funds.

nevertheless you have not stated why you wish to enter canada for studies and why you, or your parents are unable to fund this studies.

Thank you for the reply. I actually was able to fund my schooling but my friend wants to shoulder my living expense so that I can use my funds plainly for my tuition. I wanted to continue with my business schooling their as I have finished with my university years here in the Philippines.

She said that it would be like me having a host family for the duration of my studies.

Even with a sufficient amount of funds from her end?

Yes - even with sufficient funds. IRCC generally only accepts very close family member as sponsors (e.g. parents, siblings).

such a good friend you have, willing to spend so much on you

but remember you still have not explained why you WANT to come to canada for further studies instead of staying in your home country, or go elsewhere in the world. this matters so long as one comes from a significantly less developed country and tries to enter a developed country like canada for a long period of time for very obvious reasons.

True. But to be honest I just wanted to hold a degree coming from a good school from a good country since most of the opportunities given here in my place is not that good. and to be honest I want to use that degree for future career opportunities abroad also. For now my academic transcript doesn't really hold much when it comes to international job opportunities.

since you already stated you have enough funding in your own account then it should be no issue.
however your idea of "sufficient" may be very misleading. if you can only sustain yourself for 1 year which is the bare requirement then its clearly insufficient.

if you have just enough for the whole duration of the degree, and judging on your earlier post about opportunities in your country being bad, then the vo might be induced to think that you, after spending on much on studies in canada, will try to stay on in the country for a much higher paying job (compared to your home country) at all costs.

and again, you stated repeatedly that you intend to move out of your country for jobs. this again shows a lack of ties to your home country and can be used against you. just because (imo) that you come from a 3rd? world country. a similar person with the same intention as you, but who come from developed countries like western europe, singapore, australia, japan, etc will surely be viewed way more favourably by the vo

I see. Thank you for this. I'll need to recheck my options then. :(
