Hello Guys,

I have applied for PR under CEC category and my medical test is done.

Almost a month ago I received a call from 1888-242-2100. At that time I didn't know that this is a CIC call centre nbr. The person had my full name, email addr, DOB and of course phone nbr. He started as I am calling from CIC and you can verify the same by entering the nbr that I see on my phone screen in Google. When I said, I don't have internet access he started asking personal information. I said I am not comfortable to provide any such information over phone and when CIC needed any such info in the past they have emailed me. I also said you must be a fake person who is trying to dupe me as I had similar experience in the past when lady calling from some other number (who also happened to know my full name, email addr, DOB ) asked me to pay some money online as I missed some data on my immigration file. He disconnected the phone when I said so. There was no email communication from CIC after this call.

Today I received similar call from 1888-242-2100 (this time I knew this is a CIC call centre nbr) and lady on the phone was asking for my passport number. This time I politely replied that CIC never asks any personal info on phone and therefore, I am not conformable to provide any such info. However I can certainly send any required info if I am asked by CIC via official email as I have already done in the past. She said she will send an email and disconnected.

I haven't received any email as yet, but I am concerned. Can it be a real call as it displayed a CIC number on my phone screen?

Can anyone help?

the call number can be faked.
Could you share, if knows, how somebody can call on from the number they don't own?

There are many free software available on the internet that allows you to fake the number displayed on the receivers' end.

I just did a quick search on google and saw many hits but not sure if they are very user-friendly. Either way using these is hopefully not legal. ::)

Guys,

My question is why would CIC person try to stress on verifying the phone number he is calling from to prove his identity and Can CIC ask sensitive data such as pspt nbr when they have it even before I applied for PR (when I was applying/extending for WPs).

Also, little info I forgot post before:

Today when received this call, I received it on my work phone and when I checked my mobile after this call was over, I had two missed calls from the same CIC nbr. That means they not only have my cell nbr, but also my work phone nbr.

Any help is appreciated.

You should report it:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/protection/fraud/report.asp

Looks like it was a fake call.

There are many ways you can do this. Even you can call your friend using CIC no.

Those who have jailbroken iphone can confirm this.

There is an app called "Fake CallerID", look for it on google you can find information about it. It is strictly meant for entertainment purposes.

Put no to call, fake caller id no. and press call button. The no you will call will display fake caller id no.

So don't worry chill. You did right thing by not providing your any personal info. I would have done same if I were you.

+1 for handling call very nicely. :)

Same happen with me, I got the call from CIC number 18882422100 and it was looked fine since he has all the details of mine and that is why i have given my passport number when he asked me to verify it latter he told me some one will visit to my place to verify rest of the things in the morning regarding my status in Canada. In morning no one came to my place then I realize some thing happen wrong. will it matter of concern that I have given my passport number to that guy?

latter he told me some one will visit to my place to verify rest of the things in the morning regarding my status in Canada.

I don't think any office would come to home. Rather they would ask to send via post. This to me is not right.

Not sure what could happen if someone take your passport number.

I also got the call from same number.

Please don’t give any personal info on these type of fraud calls.

She gave her name and ID number first that this call is from IRCC .it was looking legit at first when she said your PR file is stuck due to background check.she said, I have not submitted my home address using the form RC325 (that is actually a CRA form to change the address ) when i moved to another city. Now,this would needs to update on call to officer and needs to submit apology to officer for not submitting the address and then your background check will complete.she was also asking about the money that i showed but IRCC never ask any fund to show for the CEC program.

Please ignore these type of call and never give any personal information especially bank details.IRCC always send the emails for filling any form.

The worrying part is how did they get your phone number name and DoB. And how did they know that you applied for PR....
