Calculating Residency obligations and 5 year rolling

Hello all,

I am slightly confused on how to go about calculating my PR RO. I see on the forum some people are saying its 2 years straight and on the website it's 730 days? And how does the 5 year rolling work? Is that after renewal where in the last 5 years it should still accumulate to 730 days?

So far I have lived 8.5 months in Canada and am planning on returning to Canada in March 2019. ( I have been out since 1 Jan 2017).

Is there some sort of calculator online where I can keep track?

There is no online calculator. You have to keep track on your own.

The residency obligation is a rolling obligation. This means at any time you must be able to look back at the previous five years and have spent at least 2 of those years living in Canada. No - the 2 years do not have to be continuous.

that 2 years straight advice is given to those that are cutting it close or want to enter when they do not meet RO anymore. In that case if they are not reported they have to stay in Canada for another 2 years before travelling anywhere abroad. (otherwise they would be risking to get reported).
But that does not mean that you have to have them all together.

You must meet your RO if 2 out of 5 years from your landing date. Expiry date on your PR is not relevant. Make sureto leave some buffer time so you can leave for family emergencies, holidays or business travel.
