Hi everyone...

Disclaimer: I already searched for "caips" using this forum's search feature, and I Googled it too. So I know what CAIPS is (Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System).

As you all know, we can purchase what's called the "CAIPS notes", from providers such as the following:

http://www.caipsretriever.com/

http://www.caips.ca/

But my question is: who are these companies? Are they appointed by the CIC? Are they former CIC officers?

Am I correct to understand that they work with the CIC? i.e.: we give our file number, and they get in touch with the CIC to find out what the gibberish codes mean?

What's so special about these providers, that the CIC is willing to give them access to interpretation of people's codes?

Why can't we ourselves contact the CIC to ask for the interpretation?

1. No, they are not appointed by CIC and are probably not ex-CIC employees.
2. No, they don't work for CIC , you authorize them to obtain your CAIPS/FOSS/GCMS notes under the privacy Act.
3. If you are resident in Canada, then you can apply for them yourself for free or you can authorize a friend/relative in Canada to Act on your behalf and they will be charged $5.00.
4. CIC gives you the notes, they don't interpret them for you.

Ahh I see...thanks for your reply!

And how did these providers learn how to decipher the gibberish codes?? The CIC didn't give them a crash course or a tutorial...? Or did they?

Does it make any sense to provide confidential information to a third party ???

I want to order my CAIPS notes. I don't have anyone in Canada who can order the same for me so I need to use the services of some company.

I went through most of the threads related to this topic but I still have some questions:

- I have filed my application myself. Can these companies take over my application, just because they have my details? i.e. file no. dob, etc.

- In the future will all correspondence come to me or will it be forwarded to one of those companies.
