Hi All,

Recently we got our PR under CEC category, I completed my landing in Aug1st 2013, I mentioned Border service office that my wife would be bringing some Jewelry from India.

Now we have some wedding Jewelries and general ornaments to bring into Canada worth over $10,000. Kindly help me what would be best way to bring them into Canada, without hassles

thanks

Wear and come, normally many people does that.. just as seen duirng the travel, but it does not matter if you even carry in you hand bag, if it's worht 10K.

Were they declared on the goods to follow list? Mentioning them to the IO is not listing them on the goods to follow list. If you didn't list them with an valuation and pictures, there is a good chance that you will be paying taxes and duties on them when your spouse brings them to Canada. Bhanavig is basically advocating smuggling, she gets caught, you lose the jewelery.

If she is bringing the Jewelery from India, she needs to declare it to Indian Customs before flying out and at the Port of Entry in Canada. Don't take any risks.

Are those Jewelries for personal use or resale?

You may be eligible for a personal exemption if you are one of the following:
a Canadian resident returning from a trip outside Canada;
a former resident of Canada returning to live in this country; or
a temporary resident of Canada returning from a trip outside Canada.
But the maximum is $800
