I have a question about my PGWP. I was enrolled as an International Student in Diploma- Interior Decorating in Sept 2019. My study permit is valid till July 31 2021. This course included a summer break. But, in Jan 2020, i changed my course to Business Diploma which was a continuous program which had expected graduation date of April 2021. But I spoke with my college and they allowed me to take one break during Spring Semester 2020. I took this break because back home my father was critical in COVID-19 situation and he passed away in Aug and this situation was very much dreadful and hence I decided to take an off from studies in order to maintain my academic performance. Now, I am expected to finish my studies in Aug 2021 and I am pretty focused now to accomplish this but the question here is that someone told me about getting refusal due to such break in PGWP. To my knowledge, according to the study permit granted, I was originally allowed to take break in Summer. Also, the college advisors had informed me that I can take one break here but after this I wouldn’t not be able to take another semester off as that will not be authorized by them. Can someone please help me with this scenario?

You're not allowed to take any scheduled semesters off. If the semester was a scheduled break that wasn't a required part of your program, it's not an issue. Otherwise, you are ineligible for a PGWP without authorized leave.

I read on the website that it is allowed on some circumstances. What if I present this proof? Does that make any difference?

Did you have authorized medical or bereavement leave? If you can get it in writing from the school and you didn't work during that time, you should be okay.
I worked during this time as I had to fund my stay here and also get back to next semester. There were financial crisis due to which it wasn’t possible for me to stop working. So this doesn’t leave me any choice? Or are there any ways I can stay back and obtain a work permit? can a lawyer or consultant help with this case?

They probably wont find out about the work, the break will be obvious on your transcript so it depends on the officer, you can try including an explanation.
