Today I got online confirmation that mine and my spouse BOWP applications have been approved but my spouse work permit has been extended for two years 15 Jan 2019 whereas for me (main Applicant) mine is only valid till Mid of Jan 2017. Which same as my current work permit. I can't understand what's the logic behind extending spouse permit for 2 years whereas only extending mine to my original permit (basically its not even an extension)

I am really stressed that why haven't they extended it for atleast a year. Can anyone shed light on this matter.

Which one of you is the Principal Applicant? (Only the PA gets the BOWP, the spouse gets a spouse open work permit, so the rules are different).

Possible scenarios -
1) The VO made a mistake.
2) Your passport is expiring (the permit cannot be issued for longer than the validity of your passport).

Suggest you contact IRCC if you think it was an error.

Thanks for reply. You are great.

I am the main applicant. So I should get a BOWP (1 year) and my wife would get spouse open work permit.

My passport is valid. I have spoken with agent he said he has put a action for VO to see if there was a mistake and if there was they'll issue a new one. He has asked me to wait, don't know how long I should wait since WP will expire on 14 Jan 2017. The thing I am finding hard to understand is why would they extend permit for my dependent wife beyond the validity of my permit. Anyway that is atleast a good news since if I have to apply again I wouldn't need to apply for her. Its very stressful situation right now.

Yeah, it sounds like a mistake. Hopefully it can be corrected quickly ...

If your Agent is not taking action promptly. you can use case specific inquiry, i had a similar issue this year with a visa application and it got resolved in 2 weeks.

i got the ITA arround 6:00 Pm, i submitted my documents ,got the AOR around 9:30 Pm
than i just submitted my BOWP because my PWGP expire today however the AOR has tomorrow date (23/12/2016) i dont know why ! anyone knows if that might cause the rejection of my BOWP !!because the expiry date of my PGWP is 22/12/2016

you can still apply for bowp under status restoration after your work permit expiry until 90days....... just that you have to pay extra 225$ extra

Just got a message on my cic account that work permit has been mailed. This time the message shows the correct validity date of the issued permit.
The agent I spoke on the first day had put an urgent request for VO to review my case and the whole thing got resolved within 2 days. Sigh of relief. Thanks everyone for your advice.

My BOWP got issued for 4 months only(untill June 2017 - which is the day of expiry of my wife's Open work permit)

I did not put my wife as a dependent for my BOWP application, But I do not know on what basis they issued my BOWP. Would be great if someone shed some light into this and help me
