You are exactly in my situation and have asked the same question I wanted an answer. I applied BOWP for myself and got it approved yesterday thou my current permit was valid until Apr 2014. So my wife has Open permit valid until Apr 2014. I was wondering whether I shud apply BOWP for my wife now or it doesn't matter.

Since you applied in Nov'2012, I am sure your PR application will surely be approved before April 2014. Now that your BOWP has alredy been approved, you can probably wait for few more months to evaluate the possibility of your PR approval before April 2014.

Thanks yahoo7. Yes, I am thinking of the same. But I wanted to be sure whether my spouse's open work permit would be considered valid to remain in Canada as it was based on my earlier closed work permit.

I think this is a valid question, you should contact CIC.

Good news.. I contacted CIC and they confirmed I don't have to apply new work permit for my wife unless the current one expires..
