Birth Certificate-India

I don't hold a birth certificate and now I planning to apply for FSW in EE. Right now I am on work permit in Canada. I tried to get the certificate when I was in India but ultimately failed.
Is there any replacement for this. Please advice. Your help might solve the question I have in my mind.
Some people say SSC with self affidavit would be considered.

Hi,
As i know, you can get it here from notary in Canada as well. Of course they will charge, but they will make a birth certificate for you, which you can submit along with your application.

I was hoping to apply in same way. But the call I made to CIC twisted my thought again. I hope this way it works. Did you see any body in this forum who were successful in doing so?
