Hi everyone,

I know the new bill will be effective June 2015. However I have some questions regarding two things.

- They say you have to show your intention to reside in canada when applying for citizenship. How will you do that besides you having a job at the moment in canada ? lets say in that period you are unemployed, do you have any ideas of ways to show your intention to stay in canada ?

-Babies born in Canada will no longer be Canadian automatically. Is that right ? If you give birth and you are PR your husband is not, is your baby still not gonna be canadian ?

Also, I heard many stories where immigration officers go to some people houses to verify if they still live in the country to prove their residence status. Is that right ? I personnally did not believe it but we never know.

Thank You in advance for your answers :)

- You don't have to show any proof of your intention, but rather just sign a statement confirming that you do plan to live in Canada

- Babies born in Canada are still automatically Canadian. The government is rumoured to be reviewing this to eliminate birth tourism, and will likely change the policy in the future. However, these changes were not included in C-24.

Once you become Canadian, you will have mobility rights to leave and enter Canada as you please. The intend to reside in Canada I think is only symbolic, not enforceable.

All babies born in Canada will be Canadian except if baby is born to diplomatic parents or parents working for accredit foreign embassy.

Nobody knows when the bill will be effective.
There is still no cut off date.
