I don't think you'll need to obtain state certificates unless they're specifically asked for during the processing of your application. (Hopefully someone else can confirm?)

its not necessary in all cases, but the husband has had some legal problems so its best to get them done in their case. I, personally, also had mine done because I didn't want there to be any delay in case they asked for them later.

OK - ignore my comment about the state certificate. I missed the bit about misadventures in his youth.

For the record, we included four state certificates with my husband's application. They were all incredibly easy to obtain (compared with the FBI). We included them not because he's been in any trouble - but because he's been an expat most of his life and lived in a few interesting places. We think he might be put through a more thorough background check than usual because of this history and wanted to provide the state certs up front (in addition to all of the country police certificates).

Interesting, AZ won't provide a criminal history record check or provide a clearance letter for the purpose of immigration.

I clicked on the Sample statement form for immigration and it refers to a FBI check. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing :-\.

wow weird! Well if AZ is the state with the issues, you can always do a personal records check (not good for immigration) and find out the info before the FBI report comes in so you'd know if you need to consult a lawyer.
