Banned from another country because of overstaying and working illegally on Spouse’s record. Can I still sponsor him to Canada?

My spouse is banned from Malaysia due to overstaying and working illegally for 4 years. He was in Malaysia from 2017-2021. Now, he is in our home country. I’m planning to sponsor him through spousal sponsorship.
will my application for spousal sponsorship get denied because of his banned status in Malaysia?

Overstaying will no impact his sponsorship. There is a good chance he will struggle to get any form of temporary visa/permit so he may need to wait in Malaysia until his application is processed.
