Hi, I am in the process of applying for permanent residency, but as of now, when I am in Canada it is just as a visitor. I was wondering if I can open a bank account without being a resident or having a Social Insurance Number. Alternatively, I was wondering if I can just be added to my wife's checking account; she is a Canadian citizen who has already relocated.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

1. You can open an non-interest bearing acct, without a SIN, but it would be easier for your wife to add you to her chequing account.

I am sure if you go into the bank and ask at the information desk someone at the bank will be more than happy to help you. Good Luck.
