if you donated money (small donations like $20 every month for three years) to greenpeace, should this be listed?

I don't think this was an actual membership, but while in university signed up to donate monthly

should I list something like this on the form or is it not relevant?

You are correct, donating is not a membership, it's just donating to the same cause you wish to support.
