Background Check

Hello,
Does anyone know what does the CIC agency check during the background checks? Besides the travel history do they do any credit/education..etc. checks?

Would we be able to obtain information on any of these reports?

RCMP will check for any criminality and CSIS will check for any security related issues. CIC can also include in the background check verification of every document you sent in but this would have been covered at PR time e.g any certifications as part of FSW application.

Thanks Msafiri. I thought they would also do credit checks and other pertinent checks that would help the CIC get a better understanding if the application is fraudulent or not. For example, having a mortgage/loans/tax history..etc could help the CIC a lot.

CIC have no 'direct' interest in your credit score. Various credit related aspects that carry a footprint of your presence in Canada could be used in RQ situations but the weight applied to such depends on where these are in relation to 'active' presence or 'passive' presence. For example you can have credit cards, mortgages etc without living in Canada. CIC also carry out FOSS/ Immigration checks as part of the citizenship application to makes sure you haven't been reported/ not inadmissible as you progress to the oath stage.
