Haha...actually, I would strap something around his tummy...but now that you mention it, he'd probably find a way to open it and destroy all the money! I caught him reaching outside the crib and grabbing his diaper bag, trying to pull it into his crib!! I should never underestimate him!!

I'm not sure how I'm going to get the money back home...the main problem is getting more than USD5,000 out of China. That said, I have been through the border many times and never once have they asked about money...in fact, they never ask ANY questions...so I'm guessing it will be fine, plus I will get bank statements from the bank showing my employer's salary deposits, my income tax statements, and anything else that can prove that this is money saved after working in China for a number of years...

If all else fails, I will either wire transfer or western union the money back to Canada...I just don't want the Canadian government getting their hands on my hard-earned cash! And I've already paid taxes on it here in China...plus with non-residency status, I am pretty sure I can bring back my savings without paying tax, though I still haven't found the exact info on any of the Canadian government websites...

I heard some stories about Chinese authorities seized travelers money if the amount they bringing out of the country exceed a certain amount. So, if I am in your shoes, I would first check with the mainland if the amount I'm bringing is not in excess. The amount varies yearly. You wouldn't want your hard earned money to be seized by Chinese authorities, right?

FS, I'd just wire the money to Canada. They won't tax it. You can prove it was earned before you moved back.

When you arrive you turn in your B4/B4A form. Make sure you checked the "goods to follow" boxes. Upon arrival, customs will go through it and stamp every page. They will cross off whatever you have with you. When your shipment arrives (or when you bring in things in the future on trips), they will cross off those goods off the list.

If you used a shipping company, they may ask you to go clear your goods at the border or an inland warehouse or they may ask you for your B4.

ONe more question about money transfer: Do I have to write that down as well on the B4A form? I mean, that I will transfer the money at a later point to a canadian bank account? It will be more than 10,000$.

No you don't. The banks will report it. But you don't need to claim it unless you have the cash on you at customs.
