Hi bros,

I am a new foreign worker in Vancouver, I would like to seek your advice on whether I am eligible to use the driver license of my home country to drive in BC, without converting it to B.C license (B.C has no reciprocal agreement with my country:().

It is said that full-time foreign students can use their original license as long as their student visa is not expired. Does the same policy apply to those who holds work permit?

Thanks in advance!

You can drive on your foreign license for 90 days. The exemptions are clearly listed on the ICBC website. http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/moving-bc/Pages/Moving-from-another-country.aspx.

The 90-day rule does not apply if:
  • you're visiting
  • you have a valid student exemption
  • you're a temporary foreign worker with a federal work permit designating you are in the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP). Workers in the SAWP may drive for up to 12 months on a valid licence from their home jurisdiction.
