Hi,

I am an Australian Citizen and would like to apply for Canadian PR.

I have been to the cic website and it seems that I would have to go through a point system check. But I wanted to get advice as being an Australian Citizen is it easier to apply or is it same for all the people?

Thanks in advance.

It's the same for everyone. Being Australian won't give you an advantage.

Thanks for your reply scylla. I am an IT professional and when I went online and checked that IT is not under the list.

Is it correct or is it by some other category? Can a citizen also sponsor me if IT is not under that category?

1. No, It jobs aren't on the "list of 29"
2. No a Canadian can't sponsor you, unless you are married to him or her.
3. You might want to check the various provincial nomination programs to see if you qualify: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/apply-who.asp
4. Depending on your age, you could get a 2 year open work permit under International Experience Canada, which would get your foot in the door.
5. Find an employer in Canada, who is willing to get either an Approved Employment Opinion or a Labour Market Opinion.
