Hi,
Does anyone know if we need to attest bank statements by a notary? Even if its in an official bank format & letterhead?
If there is an existing thread to the same happy to refer if somone can point me there?

Thanks in advance,
Jen

Does anyone have any suggestions on this please? Is there an ongoing thread where I can get some information?

If its a Bank certificate then no notary required.

@ahmed 5,

Thanks. Could you clarify please? When you say "bank certificate" - can this be the official monthly e-statement we print with the Banks' letterhead and related information?

Thanks in advance,
Jen

Please read your visa office instructions and cic website again. Original bank statements do not need to be attested or notarized.

No, you cannot print your e-statement. Request an official bank certificate from your bank. Bank certificate contains only the current balance of your account and not the transactions for a particular period. But you can include that monthly e-statement as supporting documents.

@WTF000 - Thanks but the reason for my question was that I couldn't find "clear instructions" - I could've missed this.

@blue_57 - Thanks, from what you've mentioned, bank certificates are what we call financial standing statements here. And I have one of those - was wondering if the e-statements would help by showing a 3 month (trend). I believe I have the answer from your statement below.

For the initial application, even the e-statements are sufficient. If you have bank certification, that's sufficient too. If you have both, especially the 3 month statements, then even better. The VO will probably not ask you for proof at a later stage if you provide these. In any case, notarization is not needed.

Bank certificates are issued by the bank while e-statements can be printed by anyone-I am referring to the online e-statements that are readily downloadable from the internet. For me, it's better to submit a document produced by a third party (your bank) other than yourself so it won't create an authenticity issue. And yes, submitting 3 mos statements is suggested but not required. Through this, the VO maybe satisfied on your proof of fund and may not require you additional documents later on.

request it from bank , they will provide it for you.

make sure you have a little more money than what is required by CIC as limit of POF.

Its better to be on safer side because of fluctuations of currency rates.
