Hello,

My husband and I are moving to BC from the US on July 14. We have begun the PR online form process. We are inventorying everything we bring in our moving van. We are bringing 2 cats and 2 dogs. We will have the rabies certificates for them. We are bring a rental moving van. We have our rental agreement.

  • What can we expect at the border?
  • Will we receive a form that will tell the government when we arrived so we can apply for health insurance ASAP?
  • What are things we can do/bring to expedite the border process?
  • What are the common mistakes people make?
Thank you in advance for any advice.

Your post is a bit confusing. On what basis are you moving to Canada? Is one of you already a Canadian PR or citizen? You mention that you have "begun the PR online form process" - not sure what you mean by that.

For whoever is not yet a PR, this is a good way to be denied entry to Canada and turned back to USA. A US citizen can't MOVE to Canada until they actually have PR status fully approved, not just an app in progress.

Anyone who is not yet a PR needs to enter Canada as a VISITOR only meaning with ties back to USA and luggage indicative of a visitor who will leave (so not with a moving truck of stuff).
