My wife & son will arrive in 2 weeks from the Philippines...in Toronto. Does anyone know what documents she will get at the airport immigration office...SIN? OHIP registration information...?

Thanks!

She will get her signed copy of COPR. She'll also get a bunch of "Welcome to Canada" info guides and such. She may get a SIN number depending on which terminal she lands. there was a SIN kiosk next to the area where my wife did her landing so she got her SIN number right after. But some others who landed in Toronto Pearson said there was no option for them to get a SIN number there. I think terminal 1 has it while terminal 3 does not.

She'll have to apply for OHIP later. It takes awhile anyway. She needs to come up with a proof of address like a bank statement in her name.

and the bank statement MUST be mailed to her at her address in canada. service ontario will NOT accept printed copies or anything stamped from a branch. they need to see she received mail at the address she is claiming.

Good to know you will be able to spend Christmas with your loved ones Gumper. Have a good reunion with your family.

Thanks for the replies gang, anyone know how long it takes for the OHIP card to come once applied for?

Still no news for you Edgehead? We were on the same schedule. Hope things look up very soon for you. Any idea why it is so delayed?

You can apply for the OHIP card the same day but they will not issue it until she has been in Ontario for 3 months. It is the same for Canadians returning to Canada.

Yes, there was no Service Canada kiosk at the terminal where my wife landed and you have plenty of time to apply for OHIP, the OHIP card for us arrived 3 days prior to her being OHIP eligible. Proving address was a real PITA, she ended up using her Ontario DL ("with" photo), after all the hassle.

Still no news. Manila has been very quiet since the last batch of DM's you were part of. I have no idea why its delayed and my MP was not so helpful. He told me they cant really do anything before the posted waiting time is exceeded.
I'm not expecting this year anymore. I think they reached their quota for 2014.

Yes, proving an address is really annoying - they will only accept a Mailed bank statement, no printouts, and you can't go to the bank and ask them to issue you something and stamp it and sign it, either. Only mailed works. BUT - I eventually managed because I brought in my husband, who acted as my guarantor of address - he had to bring in his OHIP card and whatnot and sign a form. So you may want to accompany your wife when she goes to apply for OHIP.

Normally, her OHIP will valid from 3 months after her landing. For the first 3 months you need to get private health coverage (such as travel insurance) if you are concerned. (If she has already been in Canada (as a visitor or something) for 3 months, there could be a way to get OHIP a little earlier. But I'm assuming that's not the case.)

Hmmm, I was present also. That wasn't one of the options provided. You really roll the dice with whom you get at whichever location. I'm liking the sounds of that College Park location that someone highly recommended, (albeit we don't need it anymore).
