Are visitors allowed to bring a pet (dog) to Canada and leave it with family?

Hi,

I'm posing the question as titled. If a visitor brings their dog over to Canada, are they allowed to leave the pet here with the visited person(s) in Canada? Assuming all the check ups and required shots are met.
