Hi,
I had applied for Canada PR 3 years back. I have travelled to Australia 6 months back. Last month I got email from Canada Immigration requesting for medical and my passport. Since I am out of India I can't send the passports to them as I would need it here as my only source of identity.
Do the Canada Immigration issue e-visa in this case? or I have to travel back to India. Stay for another couple of years before the Canada Immigration wakesup and then release my passports?
Guidance needed.

Do the Canada Immigration issue e-visa in this case?....I do not know of this being possible. CIC/VO requested your passport because they want your passport.

I am assuming that you being in Australia (for the past 6 months) represents a change in your address and work situation, as such:

(a) Did you notify CIC/VO of the change in your address when you moved from India to Australia?

(b) Did you notify CIC/VO of this apparent change in working situation?

CIC dont issue any e-visa's. I think ur probably in the final stage of PR. so don't miss this chance. U need to update the status to CIC about ur staying in Australia. if you don't inform, its gonna be a problem in rejecting ur application at final stage, so i recommend you to please inform CIC about change of address and location asap. After updating to CIC, send ur passport and medicals. But after dating to CIC, wait a reply frm them. if you dont get take a photocopy of Update to CIC as a proof.

You can do your medical at Australia also
I think its possible

This is just a general answer the question, are passports mandatory for stamping...

If the passport holder is from a visa exempt country, then there is no stamping involved.

There are some cases where it isn't necessary to have a passport.

Your case isn't one of them.

I would recommend you email the VO, inform them you are travelling right now and cannot send your passport at the moment. Inform them of when you will return to India and offer your passport at that time.
