Approved outland spousal sponsor query

Hello everyone. I'm a British citizen living in the UK, and recently had my spousal sponsorship for permanent residency approved. I have to land in Canada to complete the process by 11th April 2020.

My expectations were to be able to start applying for jobs once my permanent residency status was approved, then move to Canada once I've been offered a position. I really do not want to move to Toronto without a job. The problem I have with the date limitation for completion is that I have a 3 month notice period to serve after handing in my notice. In order to serve my notice period, and meet the 11th April 2020 deadline, I would need to find, apply for, interview for, be offered, and accept a position by 10th January. That's very unlikely, and basically impossible with the Christmas and New Year period.

I do have a 2 week holiday to Canada to see my spouse in early January, I can complete the process at this time but then I'll be going home to the UK again which raises my questions: -

1. Am I able to complete the process when landing, then go back to the UK until I find a job?
2. I believe there are forms that need to be completed before landing which state what I'm bringing into Canada with me, and how much cash I'm bringing. What I'll be bringing with me for this holiday isn't what I'd be bringing with me when I actually move to Canada permanently. What do I do here?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated as pre-arrival services aren't quick to answer questions at all.

My understanding on this is that yes, you can land, go back to UK, and then return later. The biggest limitation is the total residency (physical presence in Canada) over the period your PR is valid. If you expect that you won't be spending much time abroad once you finally completely fully move in April or even a few months later(?), it won't be that important; if you expect you'll be on the edge, adjust.

Caveat, I'm still learning about this and if others correct, assume they're right and I'm not (participating here because may eventually be important to my family as well).

Thanks armoured. Once I move to Canada I expect to live and be in the country full time, with a couple of weeks per year (maximum) back in the UK. I do need to get on top of the rules around how long I need to be in Canada to retain my PR status because that's likely key to how I want to manage my move there.

For a "soft landing", you do not need to complete and submit your Customs forms for goods accompanying/to follow.
These should not be submitted until you return to Canada with the intention of settling for at least one year. A "soft landing" doesn't have this intention.
Cash or negotiable financial instruments totalling a value of more than 10,000 CAD being physically carried through the border need to be declared on every entry.

Thanks zardoz. I just Googled "soft landing" and found all sorts of details on what that means. Seems like I'll be fine as long as I spend 530 days in Canada in the five years from my landing date, which I will.

So presumably when i land I'll be able to tell immigration officers that I want to complete the PR process then go back to the UK until a later date, and at that point they won't want the form that states what I'm bringing into the country because I'm only bringing clothes and toiletries for my holiday?

730 days. The rest is correct. Many of us have been through this process of the "soft landing".

Surprised you didn’t have to provide more proof of your intent to relocate with your spouse. They have been really cracking down and asking people to prove they are leaving their current job. Just warning you you may struggle getting a job from abroad without a Canadian address and phone number unless you work in a very specialized area where there is a difficulty finding workers in Canada. Hopefully you have some Canadian contacts.
