My wife(Canadien citizen) and I (US Citizen) have been working on the application for permanent residence for a month or so. She lives in Canada and I live in the US. She is 5 months pregnant. I recently took a 4 day trip to visit her at the end of November. On entry to canada I got sent to secondary and was questioned by immigration officer. Afeter asking me about the reason of my visit he started to ask me of my criminal background. I admitted i had been arrested in the past but wasnt sure of many details as it had been awhile. He ended up letting me through but gave me information about inadmissibility and suggested when i returned to the US i contact the court to get records of the events.
I know back in 2001 when i was 19 yrs old 2 restraining orders were filed and upheld by a judge. I also had a misdermeanor registration fraud incident in the past...not sure when...maybe 2011. Also arrested for failure to appear.
I went to the local police and have ordered a reords check and will be going to court this next week for court records. I understand i need to get FBI Clearence for the actual application.
My question is...will trying to get the records expunged make a difference. If so do i wait til its expunged to file with the FBI? Or is the right thing to do to wait the week til police cl. comes and write everything down on application and just request the clearance right away from the FBI since it takes so long?
I know i never caused any injury in the restraining order cases and any other case would have included only a fine or probation. I currently am not on probation.
Just trying to find the best smartest quickest strategy of submitting my application as my wife is due in April and i need to be able to visit her when she gives birth with no problems from customs.
I appreciate any help that can be offered
P.S. I have a medical exam scheduled end of this month
