Hello

I am a Canadian citizen, my wife is Korean.

We are currently working in China and we both have decided we want to head back to Canada in July when my contract ends.

Am I able to apply to be her sponsor while I am in China?

We plan to do an inbound sponsorship and so I am wondering if I have to wait until I am literally inbound to find out if I can be a sponsor.

Also does the time it take to be accepted as a sponsor differ between inbound and outbound? Or just for the person who is going to be sponsored?

One of the requirements of the inland process is that you must both be residing together in Canada. Therefore you cannot apply from outside Canada.

The processing time for stage 1 is around 2 months for outland, and 17 months for inland.

Also, you don't just apply to be a sponsor. Both parts of the application must be sent together.

Apply outland now through Manila. The average is around a year for the entire process, compared to 28 months for inland (which you wouldn't even be able to start until you actually come to Canada in July).
