Hi folks!

My wife and I are looking to move to Canada (where she is from) this fall. We have applied for Family Class Sponsorship, and my wife was approved in August. I have been 'offered' a job in Ontario and they have said that they have started the LMO process for me, however it has been several weeks with no real response. Here are our questions:

1) We would like to travel to Canada and apply for an OWP there. We would feel more comfortable if we have our own OWP as a backup if the offering company takes too long.

2) How long does this kind of process take and what is the likelihood of us being successful? Our attorneys in Canada said that we have a 'clean' application and we even received our sponsorship approval within 27 days...

3) I have a MEV for Canada and I fully understand that I cannot work there while waiting for the OWP or positive LMO. We'll be staying with family and have more than enough funds to support ourselves. When I leave Dubai, they will cancel my residency visa in my passport. As I am untitled to a one-way ticket as per my current contract, will I be able to enter immigration at the airport with the one-way, my wife's sponsorship, a job offer (hopefully) and proof of funds? The reasoning behind these questions is that my wife is pregnant and we have about 2 months left before it's unsafe for her to travel in the third trimester.

Being expats for almost 20 years combined, we would like to settle down and plant our roots in a stable environment. We went on our annual holiday to visit our family and this job came out of nowhere, so this is why we're strongly considering our options to go back to Canada.

Any advice or shared experiences are welcome. Thanks.

Unfortunately you don't qualify for an OWP since you applied for PR using the outland process. So you have 0% chance of success.

OWPs are only granted with the inland spousal sponsorship process.

Just to add... LMOs typically take a couple of months.

Thanks for your reply. Do you happen to know if we can switch our outland to an inland application? We have raised this question to our lawyers, but have yet to hear back from them.

To switch, you would have to cancel your outland application and then submit a brand new inland application from scratch once you are in Canada. If you apply inland, you won't qualify for an OWP until your application has received first stage approval. First stage approval is taking 10 months at this time. So canceling your outland application and applying inland unfortunately won't help your current situation.

Thank you very much for the information. Clearly you know what you're talking about. :)
We'll have to make a decision about our next move from here onwards.
