Hello all,

I'm just wondering if anyone can help answer a few questions I have about sponsoring my partner. I'm a Canadian citizen living in Australia and sponsoring my fiancee who is from New Zealand. We posted our application 2 weeks ago so I'm hoping it has arrived or will be arriving in Mississauga soon.

We are planning on moving to Canada mid-October 2013 as my sister is getting married in Mexico beginning of November. We figure this is a good time to make the move back to Canada as it is already going to be such a huge expense to get to my sister's wedding.

Based on the processing times (29 days for sponsor, 8 months for sponsored person in Sydney) we're cutting it close with getting everything approved by October.

Since we've applied from outside Canada does my partner need to be outside Canada when it is approved or could he enter Canada on a visitor visa? Will he be allowed entry into Canada on a one-way ticket or would he need a ticket out of Canada as well?

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum

If your partner is from visa exempt country (which I assume she/he is) then yes you may move in to Canada he/she may stay there as visitor until her/his PR is approved by the end of the year. Of course there might be a case that she/he will be required to attend to an interview then if this happens you might want to consider the expenses on a ticket to fly back to the VO.

Unless some other members here have a different opinion the you may proceed in this way!

Good luck
