Hi all, I came into Canada February 16th 2020 to visit my boyfriend for 8 weeks before the closures happened and at the time of writing this my Visitor status expires the third week of August. I am able to have my expenses paid for by him & as family, and I am currently & have been staying at their house. If I apply for an extension, is it absolutely pertinent to provide a valid source of funds for my stay? Can those funds be from my boyfriend & family, or do they have to be from me? What sort of documents do I need to help this? A return ticket after the extension date?

Are covid health, safety, and travel issues a valid reason to apply for this extension? At the moment it is pretty rocky in the U.S, my mom is immuno-compromised as well as having no direct flights to portland (the only option being Vancouver -> Sand Diego -> Portland. The shuttle services are down as well, making it very difficult for me to return at the current moment. I am mostly concerned that my lack of personal funds may result in a rejection, despite the ability for my boyfriend & is family to easily pay for my extended stay. Best wishes, and thank you for your time.

There's no hard rule, but it is a strong recommendation if you want to increase your chances of approval. Ideally from you, but your boyfriend and family his may work if you can show they're willing to support you. It's usually ruled on a case to case basis.

Actual financial documents like bank statements or an employment letter, bills with their address on. Possibly near-future plans for your career or relationship for the time you return to the US.

Of course. You can also explain the difficulty of the transportation situation to Portland in a bit more detail.
