Hi all,

My spouse and I had applied for Express Entry early in the year. However, circumstances have changed, and we do not wish to immigrate. However, to further my business aspiration and knowledge, I applied to an academic program at a DLI and got selected. I wish to apply for a student permit under the SDS, and my partner will be applying for the SOWP, with my minor kids applying for their study permits simultaneously. Have two questions:

(1) is it advisable that we cancel our Express Entry profiles before we start applying for the SDS and the SOWP?
(2) Is an upfront medical exam mandatory for SDS?

Thanks in advance for your support.

1. No, you can have EE profile while applying for study permit
2. You can take medical exam after request from IRCC, but it will increase the processing time

Thank you for the response. I read somewhere that having an EE profile raises suspicion that we would not have the intention to leave Canada after the studies. Hence was thinking of cancelling the profile.

I don't think it will have any impact on your study permit as long you show your ties to your home country and the program you selected to study show career progression.

Having an EE profile is an indication that you have an intention of not leaving Canada.
better not to apply with EE profile or otherwise apply after its expiry.

Thanks for the responses. On a related note, are the medical exams and PCC mandatory before beginning the SDS application?

Submitting both in advance will assist you getting an early outcome. However if you wish you submit them later thats okay too. Will just add further days to your processing.

PCC validity depends on the country of issuing. Usually a PCC with 6 months is preferred. Medical are valid for 12 months.
