Applying for PRTD (Travel Document) via Email Vs Online?

My PR card has expired and it seems there are 2 options to apply (My local VAC is not accepting PRTD applications) either via email or via PR Portal. Anyone has tried any of them recently? Which one is faster?

I applied through portal on urgent request and it’s already two months now no response
What could have been their reason?

Hello, may I ask you what ended up happening ? I applied 6 days ago to PRTD on https://prson-srpel.apps.cic.gc.ca/ and the application still shows as submitted.
