I'm planning to apply to replace my PR card soon. I will be in compliance with the residency obligation and have complete CBSA and I-94 records to back up my claim, but I attend university in the US and will have only a few days over 730 when submitting the application. As I'm concerned that my application will be non-routine, would it be wise to apply for a multiple-entry PRTD once I'm in the US? I usually cross through the land border and plan to continue to do so with my expired PR card, so this doesn't affect my studies, but it would be a major inconvenience if I am not able to fly in and out of Canada internationally. Would that PRTD application affect my PRC renewal negatively (or positively)?

Applying for the PRTD will have no adverse impact on your PRC renewal...unless it is denied, which would NOT be good.
