Hello,

I did a car accident two years ago and I was not drunk or anything going to work. The other person had right of way so I have been ticketed. Everything went well after that and now she suddenly sued me for Pain and suffering and I am in talks with lawyers about. The last option the lawyers are presenting is Bankruptcy.

Will either of the issues be a problem in PR processing.

1) If I fight the case and do an out off-court settlement
2) If I file bankruptcy?

Can someone please advice ?

A civil lawsuit will not have any implications on Canada PR.

However, the DUI charge and conviction (if any) will need to be reported on the PR application and it can affect your chances for PR. I am not sure about bankruptcy, but in general it is a long process you may get the PR before it gets finalized.

Were you arrested/charged/convicted by the police/court? If not, then no, it will not affect your PR.

However, declaring bankruptcy will affect your settlement funds. How do you plan to show that you have money to support yourself if you declare bankruptcy?
