Hello there, thank you for taking the time in reading this.

I have been perusing through the Service Canada website to look for answers to my questions but I would love to hear a second opinion from some of you kind folks on this forum. Also I tried calling the 1-800 number today several times but could not reach be directed to anyone for help. Anyhow here are the main points below: If you can even answer one of these questions that would be very helpful!

- I (25 year old Naturalized Canadian Male) got married to my wife earlier this January (25 year old Japanese female) and we are expecting our first child on June 2016

- We will be having the birth in Tokyo, and will be leaving the country together early in the last week of March, therefore there will be approx. 3 months until the time until the child is born. I will be using up my vacation days and perhaps some leave of absence

- I have spoken to HR at work and I will be taking all of the 35 weeks of paid parental benefits once the child is born

On the website it says parental benefits can be paid starting from the date of the child's birth... however

- When would the best time to apply be? (Can I do it before I go to Japan even though it will be over 3 months before the child will be born) OR Can I apply when I am in Japan?

- Does my child being born in Japan affect my EI claim?

- Would being absent from work 3 months prior to the birth affect the amount of EI I would receive? Or in other words, during which 52 week pay period would they calculate the average from when assessing my income.s

Thank you very much again for taking the time to read this.

Cheers,

- Rad
