Hi!
My bf and I are applying for a common law visa for me in September.
My working holiday visa has ended (he is Canadian) and Im re entering the
country on a visitors visa while doing this application.
Was gonna apply for a Open work permit so that i can work while waiting for the
visa and my question is just:
Can I apply for this now before we have sent the spouse papers in (with some kind of proof that
we are working on it?) or do I have to wait and send it in with the rest?

And while Im at it; the website said the Owp takes about 1 month to get.. Anyone know
how accurate that is...?

Thanks!

No - you can't apply now. The OWP has to be submitted along with the sponsorship application. If you apply for the OWP separately - it will be refused. Also note that you only qualify for the OWP if you apply inland - not outland.

No - it won't take 1 month to process (you're looking at the wrong processing times). It will take around 4 months.

Note that the inland processing times are extremely long over two years. Depending on where you are from, you may be far better off applying outland and forgetting about the OWP.

Also, you are posting in the wrong section of the forum. You need to move over to Family Sponsorship.

Around 26 months right now.

Depends where you're from / which visa office. Also, you really need to move over to the Family Sponsorship section of the forum instead of posting here.
