Hello friends,
I have got an offer from an employer in Canada. Currently I am in India. My employer is a very small firm and they are not aware of how to help me in getting a foreign worker visa. Can someone please explain me the process? I know that they have to do a labor market assessment and provide it to me with the offer. What else ?

Your employer needs to start by getting the LMIA approved. Once the LMIA is approved, you will apply for a closed work permit.

When I have LMIA, do i just apply for work permit in canadian embassy in india? What documents would be needed for that.

At what stage would i need to do medical exam?

How did you get this offer in the first place ?
It’s weird - company offers a job to you and is not aware of the process !

Your employer has to prove in the LMIA application that there is no Canadian or PR to do the job. In their market assessment they show that hiring you will grow their business and allow them to hire more Canadians. They pay $1000+ to apply and it takes months to process. Once approved you apply for a closed work permit (online). Steps are on the website. Processing takes many months. It may be a year.

Thanks this is really helpful. When applying for visa from india, do I need to show funds ? It says online that proof of funds would be required. Which seems strange since a job offer should not require funds.

Yes - it's best to show proof of fund. You shouldn't be coming over to Canada with no savings. You need money to establish yourself when you first get here. This is also a way to demonstrate ties to your home country.
