I’m a Canadian citizen. My girlfriend is a 25-year-old Australian. We
met while travelling and, after travelling together for a number of
months, she decided to come back to Canada with me as my dependent. We
have been together for less than a year.
She would like to begin working here, and I want to do everything I
can to make this a reality. We have, to this point, taken no steps to
obtain a work visa. From reading this forum, we are under the
impression that it is significantly more difficult to obtain a work
visa once a candidate enters Canada, and it is regrettable that we did
not turn our minds to this point earlier.
Unfortunately, the situation cannot continue as it is, with her
remaining unemployed. What is the fastest way for us to secure a work
visa for her, or otherwise enable her to work in Canada? How long
should we expect this method take and, if necessary, how long will it
require us to remain apart?
I must note that we’re open to any course of action to enable her to
work in Canada as soon as possible: we have discussed marriage on
numerous occasions, and have also considered facilitating her return
to Australia for a period of time to allow her to apply for a work
visa outside of Canada (which, I am under the impression, is an easier
way to receive a work visa).
I would greatly appreciate any information that you can provide on
