Hello,

I am living abroad but was granted PR status. I need info regarding applying for a PR card for the first time....

I was wondering if it would be possible for me to fill out the forms for the PR card, enclose the photos etc. and fee, post this information to my friends in Toronto who will post it for me in a local Toronto post office and give my friend's address in Toronto to get the PR card posted to them.

Would that be a problem in your opinion? I would not be in Canada during this time.

Thank you,
Louise

Not all cards are mailed - CIC asks some poeple to pick them up in person. In your case there's probably a decent chance you'll be asked to pick up your card in person.

I could see that you might have a problem with that. Yes, you could try, but be prepared for a long waiting time. If you had done this in your first 6 months after getting PR, no problem, it would be a first PR card. However, now you are applying after having been a PR for 3 years, it is more like a renewal application. Even though they are supposed to give you a PR card if you still could meet the RO for your first 5 years, they may be reluctant to, especially if they find that you are not in Canada yet and you are out of time to meet the RO. You need to be moving back before March.
