Apply w/wospouse

Hi,
I am back to this forum almost after 3 years and as I don't know where to search for keywords, I apologize if this question has been asked before.
I need some guidance on whether to apply with or without my spouse. If I apply by myself my score is around 431 on the other hand if I apply with my wife, the score goes down to somewhere in the 390s. So what would be the the best option? Apply by myself and bring my wife later once I have settled in? or, have my wife appear for IELTS again and aim for a better score? Is the first option even possible? I am 38, soon to be 39, and I am worried that if I apply with my wife, the time it will take her to retake IELTS and get the the WES evaluation done may deprive me of some crucial points as I will be turning 39 this Nov.

Your CRS point must be calculated by including your wife. You have indicated "Married" in the application and hence being calculated as such. If you lie on marital status, you could be refused and accused of misrepresentation.

Whether to include your wife for PR visa (if you are successful selected for ITA) is a separate question.

Best option is to have your wife do IELTS and ECA and increase your points

You can choose Married but spouse is NON Accompanying and you will be treated as if you are single. Create the profile on this basis and ask your wife to do IELTS and ECA, however, I don't think she will have these done before you turn 39. Anyway, if you are invited to apply as Married and Non-accompanying spouse, proceed with the application and you can sponsor your wife later. But keep in mind that the family will be separated for some time during the sponsorship process which could easily be more than a year.

Thank you for replying. I can be married but still answer no to the question "Will your spouse be coming with you?" That way I get the points using my credentials and bypass her IELTS or WES evaluation.

That is correct. But the consequences as I already mentioned are that you will have to be separated for some time if you decide later to sponsor your wife.

One more question, can I apply by myself now (choose married and spouse not coming in the form) and later when her IELTS resluts are out and WES evaluation done, update the application so that my wife can come with me? This is assuming that I will not get an ITA during the time my wife is preparing and/or waiting on WES.

Yes, you can safely make such change.

Its French for Yes. Do keep in mind that if you indeed decide to bring your wife only later after you have landed, the wait is pretty pretty long. Think long about your decision. Good luck.

Thank you everybody for your response. It really helps in taking an informed decision. If it takes more than a year to get the spouse a PR visa, can the spouse be on Canada on visitor visa during that time and apply PR from Canada while being on the visitor visa? Or, apply for PR and then visit Canada on a visitor visa?
