Hello Everybody!

I applied for PR within Canada (Family Class). I'm currently on my Study Permit (I'm Polish) which expires late August 2015. My common law is a Canadian citizen and therefore he's my sponsor.
I have received a confirmation email form CIC that they have my application but I don't know if they started processing it yet.

My questions are:

1. Can I apply for a Work Permit when if I find an employer with a LMIA?
2. If and When can I apply for an Open Work Permit - is it after my partner is approved as a Sponsor? How will I get that information?
3. What would you do in my place, knowing that the Study Permit will end before landing the PR?
4. Will I be notified when my application start being processed, or the firs email from CIC (saying they received my application) means they've already started processing it?

Thank you for any kind of help,

Much Appreciated!

Did you apply Outland or Inland?

And yes, in any case, if you can find an employer who is willing to get a LMIA for you, you can apply for a Work Permit.

I applied inland, Mississauga.

Thanks :)

Hi

1. Yes, you can apply for a closed work permit if you find an employer and get a positive LMIA.

2. You should have submitted an OWP app with the inland PR app, as that would have given you status throughout the process. At this point, you can apply for an OWP once you've received AIP, currently taking 13 months; you or your partner will be notified of AIP. If your study permit is going to expire before you get AIP and are able to apply for an OWP, you will need to apply to change your status to visitor.

3. See above.

4. CIC doesn't really tell people when they start processing an app. Some know it's being processed when they get requests for more information. Some have ECAS change to In Process. Some people get AOR and then nothing until AIP.

Is there any point, at this time, to send the OWP app to be included in the PR application?

I found an employer who will apply for the LMIA for me, but I wonder what is a better choice.

Thank you for your help.

You can't send the OWP until you have AIP.

If the employer is willing, then you should go for that option.
