Hi, I am from Philippines and I have a 5-year old son. I would like to work in Canada and bring my son with me. I am planning to get him a study permit. He will study while I am working. We have a family business here in the Phils and the good thing is it is named after me. I can use it as my proof of fund if necessary. Can you please give some notes or advice on the things that I have to do?
Thanks!

Your plan won't work.

You will not qualify for an open work permit just because your son is studying in Canada on a study permit. If you want to live and work in Canada while your son is studying in Canada, you will need to obtain a full time job offer from an employer, that employer will need to obtain an approved LMIA and then you will have to apply for a closed work permit.

Note that your son will need to pay foreign student fees to attend school. For public school this will be approximately $14,000 per year. For private school, it will be more.
