Hi,
I was interested to know the Super Visa can be renewed (not extended for a period of 2 years, renewed like getting a completely new Super Visa) after my parents have stayed in Canada for the maximum 10 years (7 years with the new update), to continue to stay in the Country for another 10 years.

I’m asking because I would like to try PGP while they are in Canada under the Super Visa, but if for any reason I am not selected on time, I would like them to get a new Super Visa and stay here instead of having to leave the country.

Thank you very much
Pierre

You are confusing concepts. A new super visa does not allow them to stay in Canada longer. Only an extension allows them to remain in Canada longer. So if you want them to stay longer without leaving, they would need to apply for an extension. Getting a new super visa will not allow them to stay longer.

All the super visa itself does is allow them to enter Canada.

They can’t apply for a supervisa while in Canada. The new period of stay is 5 years not 7 years and there may or may not be any more extensions given that 5 years is a very long time RO visit a country. I think many may unfortunately find the 5 years misleading and feel that they are moving to Canada. If they get ill and are unable to get supervisa insurance they would not be able to stay in Canada once they no longer can secure supervisa insurance. You should be planning for them to have to return for a significant amount of time if they have been able to visit Canada for 5 years. Parent sponsorship is never guaranteed and there are many who have been waiting 5+ years to get selected. The program is essentially assessed every year and given our ageing population and the extreme pressures on the healthcare system there may need to be changes to the PGP
program. The healthcare system will get even worse due to many HC workers leaving the profession. InBC alone over a million don’t have GPS at a moment. Given Canada’s increasing levels of immigration there will continue to be a very large number of PGP applicants based on the number of spots available. It is also impossible to anticipate whether they will have health issues by that time and may not be able qualify for PGP. Would still try for PGP but you should have a plan B if they can not immigrate to Canada.
