Hi,
My husband and I are living in montreal. Applied tourist visa for my nephews (21 & 16 yrs old). Rcvd an email yesterday saying they have been refused for the second time due to this reason " Personal asset and financial status ". My nephews are still students so how can they proved this? We wrote an invitation letter saying that we cover all the expenses. We submitted all these docs: 4 months bank statement, Copy of PR, birth certificate, PP copy, Insurance certificate, school certification for my nephews, round trip plane ticket (not a good idea, I guess). Pls need advise, I am so desperate.

How long a visit did they request? When were they planning on visiting? Where are your nephews from?

You should never buy plane tickets until you have an approved visa in hand.

My nephews are from the Philippines, we applied online for them. The expected trip is this coming Dec for 15 days. We realised it now that buying a ticket is not a good move, but we did it hoping the visa officer will take it to consideration, and to show that they going back to their country of origin.

I don't know if it's a good idea for them to apply for a third time, since they already have 2 refusals....

Whose bank statements did they submit? Yours or their parents'? Might be better to submit both parties', plus yours and their parents' employment certificates, and an affidavit of support from the parents that they are still dependents/students in the Philippines.

Birth certificates should be theirs, their parents', and yours.

See if they can also submit an academic calendar from their schools highlighting the December vacation period, or their course syllabi.

Long shot, I know travel history wasn't a reason for refusal, but maybe they can travel to a nearby visa-required developed country like Japan, South Korea, or Taiwan for a weekend before they try to reapply for Canada. What is their travel history?

Hi Bellaluna,
We submitted our bank statement and employment certificate since we are the host and promised to pay all expenses. Your idea about an affidavit of support is good, it gives me little hope.
They haven't travel at all.
Thank you for your ideas, appreciate it very much.

Yes, I still advise for your nephews' parents to also submit their bank statements and employment details.
Also, the 16-year-old will need a travel clearance from DSWD: include that the parents will do this in their affidavit of support.

Some people on this forum have also suggested to submit a cover letter that details how the reasons for refusal have been addressed. Since they've already been refused twice, this is a good idea.

Okey. I have readin the forum about a letter from our MP in our riding. What do you think of this? Will this help?
thanks
