I applied for my husband (who is living in the US) in November 2012. I got sponsor approval in February. Now we are waiting for Ottawa.

My husband crosses every other weekend to visit with no problems. What will happen if he decides to stay with me for the remainder of the waiting period? Will it cause any problems for him?

No it's fine. As long as he returns to US (or gets an extension) before the time is up on visitor stamp (usually 6 months).
