Hi there,

My partner and I submitted our common law application on Oct 5th 2019 from Australia as an outland application. We waited patiently as we know the AOR can take some time, however at the end of Dec 2019 we contact immigration to get an update and found out that our application had been returned on Nov 19th 2019 due to some kind of error in our application. We have since tried to follow up with them about the approximate time it takes to post back to Australia and have just been given very generic answers with no real help. We still don't have it now and have no idea if it's been lost or still in the mail on the way to us. We're desperately trying to get answers as my partner's visa here in Australia runs out on Feb 18th.

Has anyone gone through something similar and could give us an approximate time it took for your application to get back to you? We're stuck because we don't want to submit a new application with not knowing what we did wrong, but also don't want to keep waiting around because it means longer time apart from each other.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It will depend in every case on the postal times for each country.

Your best bet is to contact Australia Post and ask them.

It was sent via "Since the envelope was returned by Canada Post via regular mail, there is no tracking or reference number available."

There's no real way for us to track down who it would've been handed over to once it arrived here in Australia. Thanks for the idea though.

I got mine back in canada within a week, but not sure how long international mail would take. Im assuming if it were sent back in November it should have reached by now, but if it didnt go airmail i would think a month would be long enough.
