Hey guys,

We got a letter in the mail this week along with our application saying we'd been refused. :( I guess I misunderstood the directions for the Additional Family Information and didn't realize the sponsor had to be on this page - I thought it was strictly the non-Canadians involved in the application so only my Applicant is on the page (we have no kids).

Anyway, a couple days later we got an email saying we could link our account online, so I've done that, and I was wondering - can I just upload the updated/corrected IMM 5406 (addl family info) or do I have to completely resubmit the entire package by mail?

This is very confusing. If your application was returned, you shouldn't be getting an email saying you can link your account online. Can you show us what the email said?

We managed to link the application successfully, and weirdly online it says it's in processing. The letter says it is not in processing.

The email says:

Dear Client,

This email is regarding the Application for Permanent Residence under Family Class Sponsorship that you submitted to this office.

Attached please find a letter related to your application. Please fully read the attachment and save this message for your records.

and then a few more blurbs, and then a French version. The PDF says:

Dear (my fiance's name),

This is an automated system-generated letter to acknowledge the receipt of your application. Your application has been assigned the unique file number indicated at the top of this letter. All your correspondence with this office should refer to that unique file number. This letter confirms that your Application for Permanent Residence as a member of the Family Class was received by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) at the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga on 05/12/2017.

Link your Paper Application to Your Online Account!

etc.

The letter, however, is our full package returned and indicates we have an incomplete field on the Additional Family Information page.

:/

You haven’t been denied just fill out the highlighted parts that need to be filled out and resend it back. My package was returned twice before it went on to the processing stage.

You are very lucky. This means you won't go back to the queue. Just send the package again with the form correctly filled out. They will be able to keep processing your application instead of just treating it like a brand new one.

Double check to make sure all the forms are the most recent version. If a form is out of date, it may be returned again. Optionally, I would redo the forms where it asks for UCI numbers (now that you know what the applicant's number is).

Also, it may be prudent to include a small cover letter indicating that the package is being resent and already has an application number assigned. so they don't mess things up by attempting to assign it a new application number.

What do you mean? You didn't put your spouse name on the form?

I'm the sponsor, we didn't put my name on the Additional Family Information page because I didn't think that page was meant to include the sponsor. I thought it was only the applicant and any of their family (for instance if they were bringing children).

Yeah, only applicant fills this up right? But on the form you would have declared spouse, parents, and siblings. So, the applicant didn't put your name on the spouse section?

No, because we thought that was only for people who would be coming to Canada / being sponsored.

So we've added me as the spouse, does he also need to list his parents? They will not be sponsored...

The Additional Family Information form has nothing to do with who is accompanying the applicant to Canada... you need to fill in ALL family members on this form. Spouse, parents, and siblings (even half-siblings/step siblings).

Yes. Everything asked for on that form is from the Principal Applicant's point of view whether or not the family members are coming to Canada or not. For estranged relatives, or if they refuse to provide their addresses, put estranged and unknown

So, Applicant (themself),
Applicant's Spouse (the sponsor),
Applicant's birth mother and father,

Applicant's children. Step children if they are a step parent to the sponsor's children, or also if they were a step parent to a child in a previous marriage (if applicable)etc.

followed by the Applicant's siblings by blood,
Applicant's step siblings (children of applicant's parent who remarried and had children with new spouse, also children of a step parent which created a blended family)
Applicant's legally adopted siblings if either parent of the applicant adopted a child.

Think of it as two different applications. One for you to be a sponsor and the second for your spouse. Imagine you are only filling in yours and your spouse is filling in the applicants. That will help all the way through. Double check everything again just in case they stopped looking through your file at the first major mistake.

Hello, everyone, I need help with something. Today I received an email from CIC giving me the ok to go ahead and do my medical and they also emailed me the medical form. however, they also emailed my mom saying "Dear Client,

This email is regarding the Application for Permanent Residence under Family Class Sponsorship that you submitted to this office.

Attached please find a letter related to your application. Please fully read the attachment and save this message for your records".

We are not understanding what they are asking for, could someone please explain it to me. Thanks in advanced.
