Hi, I'm just putting the finishing touches on our application package. My husband is the Canadian Citizen and I'm the US Citizen applying to immigrate to Canada. We are both living in the US currently and have been for the past 20 years. We have filled out the forms online and hit the "Validate" button, and gotten the bar code, and printed off the forms.

My question is regarding the medical exam. When I called to make the appointment, the woman asked for my application number. We don't have one yet because we haven't mailed in the package. Yet the checklist for the applicant says to provide proof that I've had the medical exam.

The woman I was talking to seems to think I would be getting an email with my case number since I clicked the validate button. But I don't think I get a number until after I submit the application.

Help?

The woman is incorrect. An upfront medical does NOT require that an application has been submitted. The validate button only generates the form's barcodes.

It seems there has been a change in the not-too-distant past, and some doctors' offices aren't current on their info. For an up-front medical exam, the doctor's office needs to provide you with the form that you will then include with your application.

My very first post on this site was related to the upfront medical screwup and how much confusion it was causing.

You need to tell the woman that you are required to do an upfront medical exam, because you are applying through Family Class and not Economical Class, making you a non-excessive demand exempt applicant. And that you need to include the proof of the medical exam (IMM 1017) in your application.

QuebecOkie - http://bit.ly/R0GQUl - this guide is almost 2 years old and the requirements for Family Class are the same (except for the fact that now there is no Appendix C), so I think the procedures are not that new :)

May be she think you are TRV or economic applicant !!

you have to tell her you are family class applicant

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob471.asp was when it all changed.

Yeah, I meant *relatively* new, like the last few years. Some doctors' offices are very, very slow to get with the times.

Yes, they certainly are... And it causes no end of confusion for those who are affected.

I created my own share of confusion. I neglected to get an up-front medical exam. Then I found this forum. Then I figured out how stupid I was. Then I stressed out about not having done the medical, and how it might extend my wait. So I did an up-front medical exam AFTER AOR. My poor doc, lol, he was so confused! "But, if you already submitted your application, you should have the form from CIC. My form is for doing the medical exam BEFORE you submit the app." I finally convinced him I knew what I was doing (LIES!), and to just treat me like my app hadn't been sent in. I then noted my UCI number on his forms. I got lucky, and my stuff was matched up with my file, but he made it clear he was not responsible if that didn't happen, since I was doing it wrong. In hindsight, I made the right choice. AIP and DM came on the same day, which definitely couldn't have happened without my medical exam being on file.
